History

In 1925, Acuity Insurance was called the Mutual Auto Insurance Company of the Town of Herman. Over time, the company changed its name and had different people in charge.

1953, the company’s name changed to Mutual Auto of Wisconsin.

In 1957, it changed its name again, this time to Heritage Mutual Insurance Company.

then in  2001, the company finally changed its name to Acuity Insurance.

Leadership

Acuity Insurance has grown a lot over the years thanks to the leadership of its CEOs. These leaders were very important in making the business what it is now:

  1. William J. Prietzel (1926–1959): Prietzel led the company for 33 years as the first president and CEO.
  2. Hessler, Marvin C. (1959-1969) Hessler was an important part of the talks between the company and Sheboygan about a new corporate office.
  3. John R. Holden (1969–1999): Holden helped move Heritage’s headquarters to where it is now, and he was in charge of the company’s growth from $7 million to $249 million in written premiums.
  4. Ben Salzmann (1999-Present): Salzmann is the company’s current CEO. He is in charge of the company’s growth and rebranding as Acuity Insurance.

Flagpole Achievement

The corporate campus of Acuity Insurance is also known for having the tallest flagpole in the United States. The current flagpole is 400 feet tall and flies an American flag that is 140 feet by 70 feet. In June 2020, a storm caused damage to the flag, but it has since been fixed and still flies.
